Our hearts are heavy as we share the passing of our beloved Josephine Polomski, born on May 26, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York. Fondly known as Mom, Joy, Grandma Joy, and Grami, she was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and Great-Grandmother. Surrounded by love, she passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on June 14, 2025. She was the heart of our family, a gentle light whose warmth touched everyone lucky enough to be in her presence. Though she's no longer with us, her love, laughter, and wisdom remain deeply woven into who we are. We will miss her more than words can ever express, but her memory will live on through the stories we share, the traditions we uphold, and the love we pass down through generations. She will always be with us—in spirit, in legacy, and in the love we carry for her every single day. Words From the grandkids. My beautiful great grandmother Joy—Grami—has gained her wings and has entered eternal rest. She was truly a charmed one, full of grace, warmth, and strength. Some of my sweetest memories are the little ones—sharing cookies and cream ice cream, sneaking late-night snacks, and watching our favorite shows together. With her, those moments felt like magic. She always made me feel safe, seen, and loved. Grami had a timeless sense of style—always classy, always elegant. But more than that, she carried herself with dignity and kindness that never went unnoticed. I will always remember how she made the world feel a little softer, a little safer, just by being in it. I love you forever, Grami. It’s hard to choose just one memory of Grandma Joy—she was always there when it mattered most. A loving, kind, and strong woman, she showed up for everything, from picking up me and Guy from school, to never missing a birthday, and all the little moments in between. One memory that has stayed with me was back in middle school, during my home and careers class. We had a project where we had to cook lunch and invite family members. we made some kind of pasta dish and rainbow cookies for dessert which , Grammy loved her sweets —Grammy was the only one who was able to come. It was during school hours, and she made the effort when no one else could. At the time, I didn’t realize how much it would mean to me. But now, looking back, it meant everything. That was who she was—always showing up, even in the small ways that ended up meaning the most. Another memory I hold close is from when I first got my driving permit. Grammy was one of the few people who trusted me to practice driving just once. She let me take her beloved Honda Civic out for a short drive home from the mall—just a quick trip, but a big deal to me. It was the same car she’d picked us up from school in so many times. She adored that car, and it was still fairly new at the time. I remember being careful not to speed, knowing how much she cared for it. That small moment, like so many others with her, became a cherished memory. Grammy gave us more than just her time—she gave us her heart. And those everyday moments we shared with her are now some of the most treasured memories we’ll carry forward. She wrote down everyone’s birthday in her calendar—even my best friend Ellie, after meeting her just once. Her phone was full of photos—family, friends, animals, all of her cats… and all of our cats too. She’d scroll through them like a little highlight reel of the people, pets, and moments she loved most. If you crossed paths with her, she made it a point to remember you. She also had this no-nonsense kind of humor that I’ll never forget—like the time I told her her car’s brakes felt weird, and she just said, “Just press the pedal down hard.” Turns out, the brakes were going out, but she handled it like it was no big deal. That was Grandma Joy: calm, funny, and completely unbothered. She made you feel loved in the simplest, most genuine ways—and she always knew how to make you laugh, even if it was unintentional
